Endicott leads all-time series 17-10-1
As another week arrives in Division III men’s hockey, another premier matchup takes center stage. This weekend features a top-15 showdown as #9 Curry College faces 11th-ranked Endicott College in a home-and-home series beginning Friday night.
Endicott leads the all-time series 17-10-1, with the first meeting between the programs coming in 2016. Curry enters the weekend riding a three-game winning streak against the Gulls, outscoring Endicott 13 to 5 during that stretch. The Colonels host Friday night at the Canton Ice House with puck drop set for 7:00 p.m. ET, before the series shifts to Raymond J. Bourque Arena on Saturday for a 3:00 p.m. ET matinee.
Both programs sit toward the lower end of the top 20 in strength of schedule. Endicott ranks 77th nationally out of 91 teams, the second lowest among top-20 programs, while Curry is not far behind at 62. That context reflects the broader challenge for the CNE this season, as the conference has struggled slightly in non-conference play this season as a whole.
This weekend’s series carries significant weight in the CNE playoff race. While both teams are positioned for the postseason, the top four seeds are separated by just six points. Endicott holds two games in hand over Suffolk, while Curry has one, making this series a key opportunity to gain ground in the race for home-ice advantage.
The recent form for both teams has been uneven. Endicott dropped a 4-3 overtime decision to Western New England (5-15-0) and tied Roger Williams (6-12-1) before falling in the shootout. Curry is coming off a shocking loss to Johnson and Wales (6-11-1) and have found themselves trailing in several games most would’ve expected them to control.
The familiarity between the programs adds another layer. Curry won two of three regular-season meetings last season and followed it up with a 5-2 victory over Endicott in the CNE championship game. Both teams advanced to the NCAA tournament, with Curry earning the conference’s automatic bid & Endicott receiving an at-large selection.
Despite recent struggles, Curry’s play away from home has remained strong. The Colonels have won seven of their eight road games this season, including a 3-1 victory against a highly-ranked Univ. New England (15-5-0) in early December. In that game, Gage Dill led the way with two goals.
That performance has carried throughout the season for Dill, who leads the Colonels in scoring by four points. The senior has recorded 23 points in 20 games and has been held off the scoresheet just four times, providing a consistent offensive presence for Curry.
On the other side, Curry’s road success meets Endicott’s home dominance. The Gulls hold a 9-1 record at Raymond J. Bourque Arena, but enter the weekend after a recent stretch that included an overtime loss to Western New England and a tie with Roger Williams that ended in a shootout loss as mentioned.
Despite those results, freshman Louie Kamienski has been a bright spot. The former Oklahoma Warrior has recorded 20 points in his first 19 collegiate games, including 11 goals. The Illinois native has produced four multi-point outings and continues to be a driving force for Endicott’s offense.
This weekend should deliver a pair of high-intensity games with playoff positioning at stake. Curry’s ability to control games early will be tested in a series where both teams have shown vulnerability in recent results, and where special teams and situational execution could swing momentum quickly. Kamienski and Dill headline the offensive threats on each side as the Colonels and Gulls meet twice, with CNE seeding in the balance.
With postseason positioning on the line, Curry and Endicott renew their rivalry in a home-and-home series that could shape the CNE standings. The Colonels host Friday at 7:00 p.m. ET at the Canton Ice House before the series concludes Saturday at 3:00 p.m. ET at Raymond J. Bourque Arena in Beverly, MA.
